Dallas Baptist Unisversity Dallas Baptist University
Dallas, TX

Jim Booher of Booher/McGee Architects was commissioned by Dallas Baptist University to design a student center patterned after our nation's most historic building, Independence Hall. Booher chose Fiberglass Specialties to re-create the cupola, cornices, and balustrades. Using photographs of the original building, along with measurements and construction drawings obtained from the Library of Congress, Fiberglass Specialties designed and fabricated these elements, molding in authentic details.

Christ Childrens Chapel Christ's Children's Chapel
Shreveport, LA

Christ's Children's Chapel was built by Allen Dickson in 1993 as a chapel for the children of his company's employee day care program. For the building's bell tower and cupola, Mr. Dickson wanted a replica of a bell tower in Mittenwalt, Germany. He supplied Fiberglass Specialties with still photos and videotape of the original. From these photos, the replica was designed and fabricated at the factory in Henderson, Texas, then shipped to the jobsite.

Stevens Institute of Technology Stevens Institute of Technology
Hoboken, NJ

When Stevens Institute of Technology was founded in 1870, the original building plans called for a large steeple atop the central masonry tower. The steeple was never built, and when the building was renovated on the school's 125th anniversary, the decision was made to add the steeple. The architectural firm of Nadasky - Kopelson of Morriston, NJ, chose fiberglass because of it's strength, durability, and ability to duplicate the appearance of the original slate, copper, and sandstone used elsewhere on the building.

Cozumel Condominiums Cozumel Condominiums
Marco Island, FL

Three hundred feet above the beach, this 32' diameter fiberglass dome tops off the Cozumel Condominium building in the exclusive Cape Marco Complex on Marco Island, Florida. The dome was fabricated at Fiberglass Specialties' plant in Henderson, Texas, and shipped in sixteen panels to the jobsite where it was assembled and installed by the contractor. The dome uses "sandwhich-panel" construction, with two layers of 1/4" FRP laminated to a 1.5" lightweight core material. This eliminated the need for steel reinforcements, except for the embedded anchor plates at top and bottom.

Congregational Church Congregational Church
Westborough, MA

First organized in 1724, the church erected the present church building in 1834. In 1938, a hurricane destroyed the spire and top cupola. A small spire was added in the 1950's which did not match the original architectural style of the original. By the early 1990's, the entire tower structure was in need of restoration. After consulting with several engineers, the church contracted with steeplejack Chris Burgess to restore the steeple in a style consistent with the original. The existing base cupolas were restored using conventional means, with the addition of a new steel structure to support the new steeple. Burgess chose Fiberglass Specialties to fabricate the top spire, top cupola, and eight urns. The shingle effect on the spire and the simulated wood siding of the cupola are in fact molded into the fiberglass laminate. And since the white color is an integral part of the laminate, eliminating the need for scraping and repainting, the church will save on maintenance costs in the future.

High Point University High Point University
High Point, NC

This unique 53 foot structure required two sections of the unit to be open. The final product had a ornate entablature on the architrave, highly detailed entrasis columns, and a stainless steel cross. Finished on both the inside and outside, the substructure is constructed of tubular steel. There are also a series of internal access hatches for maintenance personnel to service future lighting and sound systems. The photograph below shows the upper and lower cupolas on our "pre-fit pad" where all products are stacked and fitted prior to shipping. The architect approved "out turned" seams for additional strength and cost savings.
